Thank you so much to everyone who came to the Castro Valley Municipal Advisory Council (CVMAC) meeting on Monday, May 15th. For those who were unable to make it, we had approximately 75 people show up. We filled the room.<\/p>

The meeting could not have gone better. EBMUD Director April Chan gave an update on the Quarry project and spoke against it. Former EBMUD Director Frank Mellon also attended the meeting and spoke vehemently against the Quarry project and told the CVMAC that EBMUD staff brings back projects that the EBMUD Board thinks are dead.\u00a0 Not only do we need to make sure the Quarry project is terminated, we also need to make sure that if staff ever intends to resurrect the project for
consideration in any form, it must first come back to the Board for approval.<\/p>

Everyone from our coalition who spoke did a great job!\u00a0 Thank you so much!!\u00a0 We are so effective together! Those who came and did not speak were just as important.\u00a0There is strength in numbers!!<\/p>

At the end, the CVMAC President asked staff to place the EBMUD Quarry project on a future agenda so that we can provide more information on why
it should be terminated. We will ask the CVMAC to officially join us in urging EBMUD to terminate the project. If successful, we would have both the City of San Leandro and Castro Valley opposing the project!<\/p>

Please stay tuned for the next Castro Valley MAC meeting where the Quarry Project will be on the agenda.<\/strong> It will be critical for us all to attend! EBMUD (East Bay Municipal Utility District) has applied for a conditional use permit (CUP) from Alameda County to allow the deposit of trench soil extracted from pipeline repair and construction into the quarry site located at 13575 Lake Chabot Road. Dump trucks would carry the extracted trench soil on I-880 to I-238 to I-580 West to the Estudillo Avenue exit, then up Lake Chabot Road to the quarry site. Trucks would exit the quarry site towards Castro Valley and take Fairmont Avenue back to I-580 East.<\/p>

EBMUD estimates that there will be 60\u2013100 dump trucks per day, five days a week on Lake Chabot Road for the <\/strong>next 40\u201380 years (this is not a typo)<\/strong>, with trucks entering and exiting the site and traveling on Estudillo Avenue and Lake Chabot Road every four or five minutes.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Especially in light of the recent landslides and temporary closure of Lake Chabot Road, we urge EBMUD to withdraw this application and find another site for their project.
